A 200 MWh solar plus storage farm planned for Glorit near Auckland, on the north island of New Zealand, has been granted resource consent and a notice of requirement by an independent panel. The decision allows the solar farm and battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Glorit Solar Farm to proceed, with more than 100 conditions in place.
Financing for the project has come from a banking consortium, which includes ANZ, ASB, BNZ and MUFG Bank, while Meridian Energy has guaranteed the purchase of 100% of the output from the solar farm for its first ten years of operation.
Located at Ruakākā in the country’s North Island, the 100-megawatt (MW) BESS will improve the stability of the national grid, as intermittent renewable power generation increases in New Zealand. The BESS is the first stage of a project that will include the construction of a co-located 130 MW solar farm by Meridian Energy.
