With an installed capacity of 7.5 MW and a storage capacity of 11 MWh, this battery is one of the first of its kind on mainland Europe to maintain grid stability, using highly innovative technology.
RWE has officially commissioned its first large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Netherlands at the Eemshaven power station. With a total capacity of 35 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 41 megawatt hours (MWh), the system will be crucial in balancing the power supply and demand within the Dutch electricity grid.
In the Netherlands, there has also historically not been a roadmap or detailed industrial strategy with supportive legislation, policy, taxation reliefs, or investment incentives for the energy storage market.
