As increasement of the clean energy capacity, lithium-ion battery energy storage systems (BESS) play a crucial role in addressing the volatility of renewable energy sources. However, the efficient operation of these systems relies on optimized system topology, effective power allocation strategies, and accurate state of charge (SOC) estimation.
This paper provides a comprehensive review of lithium-ion batteries for grid-scale energy storage, exploring their capabilities and attributes. It also briefly covers alternative grid-scale battery technologies, including flow batteries, zinc-based batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and solid-state batteries.
