How to connect the base station RRU power supply head

4 FAQs about [How to connect the base station RRU power supply head]

What is a remote radio unit (RRU)?

The radio specific HW for each sector is contained in a Remote Radio Unit (RRU), which is designed to be located near the antenna. The rest of the RBS (control, base band, switching and Iub interface parts) is contained in a Main Unit. A thin optical fiber pair cable connects each RRU to the Main Unit.

How are BBU and RRU connected?

Both the BBU and RRU are connected using fiber optic cables to transport digital data and control information. Initially, the Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) was developed as an interface protocol in RRH deployments, especially in 4G LTE and 5G networks.

How does a RRU installation work?

Lift the RRU and installation components to the tower. Installer A climbs up to the tower, installs the fixed pulley on the support of the tower platform, and then leads the lifting rope through the fixed pulley. Installer C binds the RRU and installation parts using the lifting rope and fixes the handle of the RRU to the pulling rope.

How are RRH & BBU connected?

Both the radio front end (RFE) and BBU are connected using fiber optic cables. The REC part of the RRH consists of ADC/DAC, RF up/down converter, Power Amplifier (PA), Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), and RF duplexer/switch. The RE part consists of PHY layer modules as defined in eCPRI and 5G NR specifications.
